I absolutely love this book! Melanie Johnston's arrangements of Jay Unger's and Molly Mason's Waltzes and Airs are delightful to the ear, and cause me to choose this book before all else.
I was and still delighted to be able to play Jay and Molly’s beautiful tunes artfully arranged for dulcimer by Melanie Johnston. A must have in anyone’s collection.
Wonderful! Just wish it included Ashoken Farewell.
This book has a lot of tunes I've never heard of, and unlike many tab books, I don’t have to strum. I can instead use my fingerpicking skills. The melody is some songs are on the middle and bass string, which I find more interesting that always being on the melody string. .
I've always loved Ashokan Farewell (which is not in this book) along with the other Jay Unger and Molly Mason songs that are often used in Ken Burns documentaries. The Blue River Waltz is a great song from "The National Parks" and The Lovers' Waltz has always been a favorite of mine and Mountain House is a close 2nd. Now I have quite a 22 of their lovely songs arranged for mt. dulcimer . If you love Waltzes and Airs this book is for you. There is not a mediocre one in the bunch.
