Welcome To Annwfn: A Song History

"Welcome To Annwfn" is the last entry in the "Songs included" list for Deborah Hamouris's Indian Summer, her own publication of 24 tunes, duets and songs for standard mountain dulcimer with notes on each piece, and it appears there once, in DAD tuning.[1] The DulcimerDownloads listing says ten of the book's titles are originals, but it does not say which ten, and it names no composer for this one.[1] On the book's page at her own website, the table of contents marks this title and nine others with an asterisk, a symbol the page leaves unexplained.[2]

Hamouris, who joined the Freight & Salvage education faculty in 2009 and founded the Berkeley Dulcimer Orchestra in 2014, recorded an album called Welcome to Annwfn with her brother, Rick Hamouris, in 1986.[3] Her store describes it as a Neo-Pagan collection of songs and chants, made with friends including Anodea Judith and Buffalo, that existed only on cassette until Rick remastered it, with a CD reissue following in 2004; the title cut is named among the album's standards.[4] That song is the album's second track.[5] None of the sources consulted here names its writer or confirms that the dulcimer piece in the book is the same tune.[1][4][5]
