The Cactus Incident: A Song History
"The Cactus Incident" is the ninth of fourteen titles listed for DulciFlute 2, the second volume of mountain dulcimer and Native American flute duets by John Keane and Karen Keane, published by Fingers Of Steel.[1] The listing presents the book as a collection of original songs for those two instruments, but it gives no composer for any single title, so it does not say which of them wrote this one.[1] Recordings of every song, in MP3 form and played as written, come with the book's download.[1] The Keanes, who are from Shreveport, Louisiana, both trained as music educators, and their original dulcimer and flute music has appeared in a number of books and on CDs.[2][3] The sources consulted here point to no other recording of the tune and do not explain its title.[1][2][3]

Cactus Plant in Flower, opaque watercolor on paper, ca. 1800. Shown in fun for the cactus in the title; it has no connection to the tune.
