Sour Berry Blues: A Song History
"Sour Berry Blues" is one of fourteen pieces in DulciFlute 2, the second book of duets for mountain dulcimer and Native American flute by John and Karen Keane, published by Fingers Of Steel.[1] The listing says the book contains original songs for the two instruments, but it does not say who wrote any individual tune.[1] John and Karen Keane come from Shreveport, Louisiana, and their repertoire runs from Louisiana traditional music and bluegrass to Mississippi Delta blues, played on mountain dulcimer, Native American flute, ukulele and cajon.[2] Both trained as music educators, and they have written several books and recordings of original music for mountain dulcimer and Native American flute.[2] Nothing in the sources consulted here records when the piece was written or what lies behind its title.[1][2]

Cherries and Strawberries, folio 47 (recto), from Florilegium (A Book of Flower Studies), watercolor, ink, silver, and gold over occasional traces of pencil, on vellum, 1608. Mostly cherries rather than sour berries, shown in fun; it has no connection to the tune.
