Scotty Smiles: A Song History
"Scotty Smiles" appears ninth in the song list for Music From The Heart, a fifteen-piece collection by Tom McConnell that Airway Publishing issues and DulcimerDownloads sells as a PDF download, with a separate MP3 recording of every song.[1] The listing describes the book as original music by McConnell, introduces him as a college professor, and sets this tune, like all the others, in DAD tuning.[1] His DulcimerDownloads artist page says he plays mountain dulcimer, guitar, ukulele and some bass as a hobby, and that his self-described "acoustic folk" also draws on Americana, blues, bluegrass and jazz.[2] The sources consulted here do not say who Scotty is or when and why McConnell wrote the piece.[1][2]

Nymphenburg Porcelain Manufactory, Bust of a laughing boy, hard-paste porcelain, 1761. Shown for the smile in the title; it has no connection to the tune and does not depict anyone named Scotty.
