Possum Perfume: A Song History
"Possum Perfume" comes fourth among the fifteen tunes in 15 Originals, a mountain dulcimer book by John Keane published by Fingers Of Steel; the listing sets it in DAD tuning and names Keane as its composer.[1] The book opens with seven DAD tunes, among them "Okra Pie" just before this one, and is sold as a 43-page PDF with each tune also supplied as its own file.[1] John Keane performs with Karen Keane; both come from Shreveport, Louisiana, hold music education degrees from Northeast Louisiana University (now the University of Louisiana-Monroe), and are credited with a number of books and CDs of their own compositions for mountain dulcimer and Native American flute.[2] Nothing in the sources consulted here says when the tune was written, whether it has been recorded, or what inspired its name.[1][2]
