Peace And Promise: A Song History

← Back to Browse By Song

"Peace And Promise" is the last of the fourteen tunes listed for DulciFlute 3, a Fingers Of Steel songbook of duets for mountain dulcimer and Native American flute by John Keane and Karen Keane.[1] According to its listing, the dulcimer goes in DAD tuning and the flute is pitched in B minor, and buyers get the whole book as a 26-page PDF along with individual tune PDFs and 28 MP3 recordings of the tunes.[1] The listing assigns no individual composer to any of the tunes, so it does not say whether John, Karen or both of them wrote this one.[1] From Shreveport, Louisiana, the Keanes both earned music education degrees at Northeast Louisiana University, today the University of Louisiana-Monroe, and between them count more than seventy years of teaching along with several books and CDs of their own dulcimer and flute compositions.[2][3] The sources consulted here say nothing about how the tune got its name.[1][2][3]
