Not My Canoe: A Song History

Among the fourteen mountain dulcimer and Native American flute duets in John Keane and Karen Keane's DulciFlute 2, a Fingers Of Steel book, "Not My Canoe" comes second.[1] The seller bills this second volume of the couple's duets as original material composed for dulcimer and flute playing together, and buyers receive a 25-page PDF of the whole book, separate PDFs of its 14 tunes and 28 MP3 tracks.[1] Neither Keane is credited with any particular tune on the listing, which therefore leaves the authorship of this piece unassigned.[1] Both are music education graduates of Northeast Louisiana University, the school now called the University of Louisiana-Monroe; they come from Shreveport, Louisiana, and have released a number of books and CDs of original mountain dulcimer and Native American flute music.[2][3] Nothing in the sources consulted here explains the canoe in the title or any story behind it.[1][2][3]

Watercolor of dark mountains and a stormy sky over a lake, with a tiny canoe on the water
