Lorinda Jones
Lorinda Jones is a mountain dulcimer and folk harp player, teacher and music therapist from Kentucky. She grew up in Tompkinsville, near the knobs of the Cumberland Plateau, surrounded by old-time, gospel, shape-note and bluegrass music, and earned a degree in music education with a focus on piano and oboe.
Lorinda began her career as a public school music teacher, where she wrote her first instructional books and song collections for her own classes. She went on to become a board-certified music therapist and one of the first in Kentucky to develop school programs for children with disabilities, including an adapted method for teaching the dulcimer to special learners. She has been called a pioneer of music therapy in Kentucky.
She formed the Heartland Dulcimer Club and chaired its annual festival for 25 years, and she directs the Heartland Harp Ensemble. Lorinda has taught at festivals and music camps across the country, including Kentucky Music Week and the Swannanoa Gathering, and she also teaches online. She performs traditional Irish music with Skylark, an all-female trio.
Lorinda has recorded several albums featuring the mountain dulcimer, including Celtic, Christmas and Renaissance music, and she is one of the artists featured on Great Players of the Mountain Dulcimer and Masters of the Mountain Dulcimer Play Christmas. Her Traditional Playing Of The Mountain Dulcimer is published by Fingers Of Steel.
