Kathy's Ann Arbor Waltz: A Song History
“Kathy’s Ann Arbor Waltz” is one of eighteen pieces in The Doofus - Occasional Number 4 - 18 Favorite Waltzes For Autoharp, a collection of autoharp arrangements in sheet-music form by Neal Walters and Heidi Cerrigione, members of the band The Doofus.[1] The listing points out that the arrangements are written for autoharp rather than dulcimer, and it does not name the composer of this waltz.[1] Walters, of Greencastle, Pennsylvania, plays autoharp, dulcimer and banjo, spent more than twenty years with the Mill Run Dulcimer Band, and, with Coleen Walters and John and Heidi Cerrigione, plays in the band Doofus.[2]

Constantin Guys, At the Ball, pen and black ink and brush and gray wash, 19th century. A woman dressed for a ball, shown for its subject; it has no connection to the waltz.
According to the band’s own website, Neal and Coleen Walters also recorded the tune for Snowbirds, a twenty-tune album of material the couple might perform at a house concert or a dulcimer or autoharp gathering.[3] Neither the book listing nor the album description consulted here identifies the Kathy of the title or says who wrote the waltz.[1][3]
