Haggerty's Waltz: A Song History

← Back to Browse By Song

"Haggerty's Waltz" is one of the twelve pieces in Ellen Pratt's Ensemble Arrangements For The Mountain Dulcimer, Volume 3, which DulcimerDownloads sells as a licensed download published by Pratt herself; the listing sets it for three dulcimers, all in DAD tuning.[1] The book's contents page, reproduced on the same listing, puts the waltz in 3/4 time on pages 12 to 14.[1] Neither the listing nor that contents page names a composer for this title, so the sources consulted here do not show whether it is Pratt's own tune or an older one she arranged.[1] Nor do they say who the Haggerty of the title might be.[1][2]

Pratt has been composing for the dulcimer since 2004, and a place in a dulcimer orchestra in northeastern Connecticut drew her into writing and arranging music for ensembles.[2] Her biography counts ten books of ensemble tablature so far, along with one compilation volume made for the First National Dulcimer Orchestra.[2]
