Foggy Mountain Morning: A Song History

← Back to Browse By Song

"Foggy Mountain Morning" is one of the pieces in Ellen Pratt's Ensemble Arrangements For The Mountain Dulcimer, Volume 6, a book published by Ellen Pratt, where it is set for five dulcimers in DAD tuning: melody, high harmony, low harmony, bass and chord back-up.[1] Her DulcimerDownloads biography dates her first dulcimer compositions to about 2004 and says that playing in a dulcimer orchestra in northeastern Connecticut led her to ensemble writing.[2] Her own website adds that she teaches second grade, plays for her pupils on dulcimer and banjo, and co-coordinates the New England Dulcimer Days festival in Vermont.[3] Pratt's contents page for the volume lists the piece in 4/4 time and credits several neighbouring pieces to Arbeau, Bach, Pachelbel or tradition, and one to Pratt herself, but names no composer for this one, so the sources consulted here do not say who wrote it or when.[4] Those sources also say nothing about how the piece came to be written or what its title refers to, and list no recording of it.[1][4]
