Expressions: A Song History
"Expressions" comes from Tom McConnell's Music From The Heart, a set of fifteen mountain dulcimer tunes, all in DAD tuning and each with an MP3 recording, that its DulcimerDownloads listing introduces as "a book of original music" by McConnell and that was published by Airway Publishing.[1] His artist page on DulcimerDownloads presents him as a hobbyist who plays mountain dulcimer, guitar, ukulele and a little bass, and whose self-described "acoustic folk" also draws on Americana, blues and bluegrass, and to a lesser degree jazz.[2] Apart from that credit, the sources consulted here give no date or story for the tune and mention no recording of it other than the one supplied with the book.[1][2]

Sébastien Le Clerc, le Jeune, Le Ris, from “Caractères des passions, gravés sur les desseins de l'illustre Monsieur le Brun”, etching, 1695–1720. Studies of laughing faces, shown for the title; they have no connection to the tune.
