Cedar Creek Serenade: A Song History

← Back to Browse By Song

"Cedar Creek Serenade" is one of sixteen pieces in DulciFlute, a book of duets for mountain dulcimer and Native American flute by John Keane and Karen Keane, published by Fingers Of Steel.[1] In the book the flute line is fully notated while the dulcimer line is given as chords, and each tune comes with a recording by the two authors.[1] Its listing calls all of the tunes originals rather than reworkings of old-time songs, but it does not say which of the Keanes wrote this one, and the sources consulted here do not say which Cedar Creek the title has in mind.[1] Both Keanes earned degrees in music education, and the Shreveport, Louisiana, duo have put out several books and CDs of original music for this pairing of instruments.[2][3]
