Campin': A Song History

"Campin'" is an original tune by Bing Futch: the listing for Mountain Dulcimer In The Band (Book 7) in his own online store names it as one of three Futch compositions in the book, alongside "Walking Off The Egg Nog" and "West Lafayette Reel."[1] Futch has also recorded it, as the tenth and final track of his album Dulcimerica, Vol. 3, released on April 4, 2015, by J.O.B. Entertainment.[2] According to his store, the album as a whole, rather than this tune in particular, takes its inspiration from road travel across the United States.[3] His store presents Book 7 as the series' first new installment since 2010 and says it is built around flatpicking.[1] Its DulcimerDownloads edition, published by J.O.B. Entertainment, gathers sixteen tunes suited to flatpicking, with two sets of recordings: one pairs demonstrations with backing tracks, while the other offers only the backing tracks for playing along.[4] Beyond its authorship and that recording, the sources consulted here say nothing about how or when "Campin'" came to be written.[1][2][4]
